First of all — yes. Do it. You’re going to fall in love with the turquoise water, laid-back vibes, and local gems that make this place feel like home (even if just for a week).
At Blue Island Rentals, we’ve been lucky to host a lot of first-timers. So, we figured we’d share the quick version of what we usually tell friends when they’re planning their trip down.
Where to Stay in the Florida Keys
We may be biased, but our rentals are designed to make you feel at home and on vacation at the same time. Our first rental, Blue Breeze, still holds a special place in our hearts. It’s close to everything — the beach, restaurants, grocery stores — and has the chill outdoor space you’ll want after a day in the sun.
What to do in the Florida Keys
This isn’t the kind of place where you need to pack every day with activities… but if you’re up for some fun:
-
Snorkeling at Sombrero Reef – hands down, a must-see
-
Boat or kayak rentals – explore at your own pace
-
Fishing charters – whether you’re a first-timer or a pro, it’s always a good time
-
Dolphin Research Center – especially sweet if you’re bringing kids
What to eat in the Florida Keys
The food scene here? Ridiculously good.
Some guest favorites:
Keys Fisheries – grab a lobster reuben and eat by the water
Sparky’s Landing – live music and sunset drinks
Sweet Savannah’s – because dessert is essential
